Systems for asset tracking using both passive and active RFID tags are becoming common-place. RFID tags are attached to items, allowing faster and easier tracking and inventorying of assets such as tools and equipment.
The use of RFID tags has the benefit that assets can be tracked automatically as they make their way around a facility. Automatic alarms can be raised if someone attempts to remove an asset, identifying both the asset being removed and pinpointing its location. Active RFID is often used in this kind of application.
RFID’s capability to scan multiple tags simultaneously means that taking inventory can be reduced to a fraction of the time of what it would take compared with barcode.
